Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community
Nashville Metro Councilman Robert Swope is a Public servant, CEO, President, Executive Producer, Producer, Director, Editor, Writer and Performer who, since a very early age, has been exposed to an extensive array of entertainment, management, production and public service.
In 1988, he received his Bachelors Degree in Management, with minors in Computer Science and Philosophy from The Georgia Institute of Technology. Since founding Sunrise Entertainment in 1993, Swope has garnered an EMMY® Award (Best Live Broadcast), 8 Stellar Awards, and has been nominated for a total of eight EMMY’s®, three GRAMMY’s®, and over a dozen STELLAR awards. He has broadcast programming to dozens of networks worldwide during his career.
Within the Public Service and Political arena, Robert has served as a conservative member of the Metropolitan Nashville City Council since election in 2015. He has proudly represented constituents in the Fourth Council District and has been influential in transit/traffic discussions over the past 4 years. His white paper entitled “Intelligent Transit” has sparked the ongoing conversation of how to implement advanced technologies into current modes of transportation. Assisting Senator Mark Green and others, Swope helped craft and pass legislation legalizing autonomous vehicles in TN, now one of the only states in America in which Level 5 AV’s are permitted to operate without human interference.
Robert has Chaired the Convention & Tourism committee and is the current Chairman of the Codes, Fairgrounds and Farmers Market committee during his current term on Metro Council. He is also the vice chair of the Public Safety Committee. He has worked tirelessly to support those initiatives that matter to Nashville, like Public Safety, schools, and a balanced Metro budget.
Robert was the Tennessee State Director for the 2016 Donald Trump for President presidential campaign after serving as the Tennessee Deputy State Director during the Primary elections. His leadership won 91 out of 95 counties in Tennessee. During the last weeks of the campaign, he worked GOTV efforts in New Hampshire and Virginia during this monumental election cycle.
He has been awarded Nashville Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year twice (2005 & 2006), the Metro Police Community Service Award (2015) and contributes to his community of Nashville, TN on a regular ongoing basis.
Robert has directed, produced and edited three record breaking High Definition concert specials: The Moffatts: Wild at Heart - the first multi-camera Hi-Def shoot in Canada; Living Legends of Rock & Roll: Live From Itchycoo Park – a five day High Definition event that was the first use of HD in Image Magnification; and The Fabulous Thunderbirds: Invitation Only - the first widescreen Hi-Def live streaming Webcast in history.
Robert produced and directed the symphonic musical Gershwin: Here To Stay, the hit musical Over The Rainbow: The Music of Arlen and directed/produced the live television broadcasts of 98 Degrees for Wal-Mart; One Symphony Place for PBS; Barnum & Baileys Kaleidoscape; Gershwin at One Symphony Place for PBS; The 2001 San Remo International Music Festival from San Remo, Italy; Bill Monroe: The Legend Lives One a PBS Pledge Special; and the world premiere of Bela Fleck’s Concerto for Banjo with full symphonic orchestra to a worldwide audience. Robert also directed the ABC series pilot The Real Rosanne, The ROOTS Presents, Smokie Norful’s Nothing Without You, The Mighty Clouds of Joy Live, The Fisk Jubilee Singers: Sacred Journey and multiple live US concert tours for and with Andrea Bocelli.
Robert is a founding board member of Film Nashville and Film-Com and had been a member of NARAS, NATAS and NATD. He is former board member of the Music City AACA, and was a past BOD member of the Nashville Corvette Club. Robert is also a proud member of the Nashville-Franklin ELKS Lodge #72.
He has produced multiple charity events each year for the City of Nashville including the Arts & Business Councils Bowtie Awards, The Annual Music City Corporate Band Challenge, Film-Com, Kars4Kids and other city-wide events including bringing CAVALIA to Opryland in 2017. In his spare time, Swope builds and races Corvettes.
Robert has been married to his lovely wife Regina for 18 years, and shares their home with their Lhaso-Apso named Bentley.
